The existence and dynamical behavior of discrete cavity solitons (DCSs) in array of coupled optical cavities with Kerr nonlinearity are studied and compared for 1D and 2D cases. Then a local Gaussian shaped defect is introduced on individual cavity detuning and DCS is simulated in presence of the defect and their stability is investigated. It has been found that the stability domain of DCSs and their intensity profile are affected by sign and value of the local defect. Our simulations revealed the effect of the local defect on soliton’s on/off switching. Here emerging of non-controllable spontaneous soliton is unavoidable if the height of the positive defect exceeds a critical value. As it can be predicted, system tends to a homogenous behavior by increasing the width of the defect respect to DCS wideness.
