This work is devoted to the theoretical investigation of the surface morphology influence on the dark current. The proposed theoretical model of the cathode surface, considering micron and submicron irregularities, gives a satisfactory agreement of the breakdown field from model cathode with those obtained experimentally. Also, a model of the cathode surface is proposed that takes into account the statistical variation of the radii of curvature of the tips on the surface. It is shown that the presented model of the metal surface allows us to better simulate the field emission current and to match the theoretical model with experimental results.
