This contribution is motivated by the current interest in topological materials and the studies in toroidal dipole interactions in metamaterials and nanophotonics. Its contents are presented in two parts, one on reviews of electrons in cylindrical boxes and magnetic fields and of electromagnetic multipole sources and fields in spherical toroids and new results on a complete family of electromagnetic multipole sources and fields in cylindrical toroids. The discussion and outlook of both parts may be helpful to appreciate the progress since previous reviews and also current works under way.
