Slow electron excitation of selenium in the gas-phase has been studied using an optical spectroscopy method. The emission spectra of selenium were recorded in the wavelength range of 200–590 nm at the incident electron energies of 20, 30 and 50 eV. In the above spectra, the molecular emissions within the wavelength range of 300–560 nm as well as the selenium atomic spectral lines were observed. The optical excitation functions for the most intense molecular emissions and atomic selenium spectral lines were measured.
