We investigate a modified polarization-independent fishnet metamaterial with dual-band double-negative character at terahertz range. From the retrieved effective parameters and the simulated current distributions, we demonstrate that the proposed structure can supply magnetic resonances at two different terahertz bands. An electric resonance, close to the effective plasma frequency, is also found to be excited and it can significantly influence the effective plasma frequency. Moreover, by suitably selecting the geometric parameters, the proposed metamaterial can possess two or only one double-negative band when the second-order magnetic resonance frequency is lower or higher than the effective plasma frequency. The electromagnetic behavior of the proposed structure is independent of the polarization of the incident wave. Our study is beneficial for the development of terahertz devices.
