Chemiluminescent reactions of Ca*(3PJ) atoms with
C6H5X (X = F, Cl, Br, I) and C6F5I molecules were
studied in a beam-gas arrangement. The A –X 2
and B 2
–X 2
transitions in calcium
monohalide products have been observed for all targets except
C6H5F. The total collision cross sections for the systems
studied are about 10-18 m2, in agreement with the harpoon
model, while the chemiluminescence photon yields are below 1%.
