Oscillator strengths of the 4s4p 1,3P1 ↦ 4snd1,3D2 transitions of neutral calcium

We report measurements of f-values of
the 4s4p 1P1↦4snd 1D2 () and the 4s4p 3P1↦4snd 3D2 (
) Rydberg transitions in calcium using a thermionic diode ion
detector in conjunction with a Nd:YAG pumped dye laser system. Absolute
values of the photoionization cross-sections have been determined for
transitions from the 4s4p 1P1 and 4s4p 3P1 excited
states to the 4s ionization threshold as 140(20) Mb and 117(20) Mb
respectively. The measured threshold photoionization cross-sections have
been used to calibrate the f-values of the above-mentioned Rydberg
transitions.
