In a simple model in which a harmonic oscillator is coupled to massless scalar bosons, we exhibit poles of matrix elements of the resolvent of the Hamiltonian which differ from those usually attributed to the excited levels of the isolated oscillator. We give reasons why one should expect such poles in atom-radiation interaction and explain how their importance depends on the range of the interaction.
