Abstract

Whereas a sizeable configuration interaction has been detected earlier between the ground $4f^2$ configuration ofPr³⁺ and the excited 4f6p configuration, it is shown here that for Tm³⁺ ( $4f^{12}$ ) at the other end of the rare earth series, there is evidence of a $4f^{12}5p^6/4f^{13}5p^5$ interaction.
