EPJ D Topical Issue: Quantum Aspects of Attoscience

Submissions are invited for a Topical Issue of EPJD on the Quantum Aspects of Attoscience.

Attoscience has emerged from the interaction of matter with intense laser fields and deals with some of the shortest timescales in nature. Its ultimate goal, to control electron dynamics in real time, has made the area hugely popular, with applications ranging from biomolecules to human-made devices. This rapid growth has led to a vast, fragmented methodological landscape, with many conflicting views. Furthermore, whilst classical methods have enjoyed great success, quantum aspects remain largely unexplored, especially in extended, highly correlated systems.

The present Topical Issue will complement and enhance the CECAM Virtual Workshop Quantum Battles in Attoscience, in which areas of tension in the field will be explored. As part of this Topical Issue, we will include three planned multi-author review/perspective articles, on each of the three “battle” topics: Tunneling, Quantum Interference (and application to attosecond imaging), and Methods (numerical and analytical).

Further to this, we invite contributions for regular articles from the attoscience, ultrafast physics and quantum technology communities.

Topics to be covered include but are not limited to:

  • Interferometric schemes and high-order harmonic spectroscopy
  • Attosecond imaging of matter
  • Ultrafast photoelectron holography
  • Chiral light and chiral targets
  • Sculpted fields
  • Electron-electron correlation
  • Free-electron lasers
  • Attoscience in topological systems
  • Strong-field phenomena in long wavelengths

The issue is open to everyone, whether they attend the meeting or not. We invite contributors to communicate their intention to submit manuscripts for this Topical Issue to the Guest Editors as soon as possible. Please provide the tentative title of the paper and a short abstract. The full manuscripts should be submitted before the deadline directly to the EPJD Editorial Office at https://articlestatus.edpsciences.org/is/epjd/.

Deadline for submission: December 31, 2020

Submissions should be clearly identified as intended for the Topical Issue "Quantum Aspects of Attoscience". Papers will be published continuously and will appear (as soon as accepted) on the journal website. The electronic version of the Topical Issue will contain all accepted papers in the order of publication. All submitted papers will be refereed according to the usual high standards of the journal.
