EPJ D Topical Issue: Spectroscopy of biomolecular ions in vacuo

Submissions are invited for a Topical Issue of EPJD on Spectroscopy of biomolecular ions in vacuo.

Gas-phase studies allow for investigation of intrinsic biomolecular properties that are unperturbed by solvation, counter ions or any other chemical environment. Over the last years, this field has seen big advances due to development of novel experimental techniques and theoretical approaches.

The combination of soft ionization techniques with radiofrequency or electrostatic ion transport and storage devices allows for preparation of ionic biomolecular targets that are sufficiently dense for spectroscopic studies. These targets can even be prepared in well-defined conformations or quantum states. In combination with lasers and more recently with advanced photon sources such as synchrotrons and free electron lasers, it is presently possible to investigate virtually any possible biomolecular system over a wide range of wavelengths, from THz spectroscopy of conformational modes up to soft X-ray spectroscopy of molecular electronic structure.

The Guest Editors welcome theoretical and experimental papers on all aspects of spectroscopy of biomolecular ions such as (but not limited to) proteins, oligonucleotides, protein biochromophores, or glycans.

The issue is open to everyone working in the field. We invite contributors to communicate their intention to submit manuscripts for this Topical Issue to the Guest Editors as soon as possible. Please provide a tentative title of the paper. The full manuscripts should be submitted before the deadline directly to the EPJD Editorial Office at https://articlestatus.edpsciences.org/is/epjd/.

Deadline for submission: 31 January 2021

Submissions should be identified clearly as intended for the Topical Issue "Spectroscopy of biomolecular ions in vacuo". Papers will be published continuously and will appear (as soon as accepted) on the journal website. The electronic version of the Topical Issue will contain all accepted papers in the order of publication. All submitted papers will be refereed according to the usual high standards of the journal.
