EPJ A Topical Collection: Short-Range Correlations and the EMC Effect

Several decades ago, proton knock-out experiments from valence states clearly showed a reduction in the measured cross sections as compared to mean field calculations. While theory anticipated that the difference was mainly due to correlations between nucleons in the nucleus, it proved extremely challenging to prove this experimentally due to reaction mechanisms such as final-state interaction and meson exchange currents. With the advent of high luminosity, multi-GeV accelerators, experimentalists in the 21st century were able to isolate the signal of short-range correlations and usher in a period of rapid progress on a topic that had long been stalled. One of the most surprising of the new results is a correlation between the strength of short-range correlations and the magnitude of the deep inelastic EMC effect. For these reasons, the editors of the European Physical Journal A (EPJA) have suggested that a Topical Collection devoted to research on short-range correlations and the EMC effect be published.
The Topical Collection will contain articles that both review the recent experimental and theoretical advances that have been made on the topic of short-range correlations as well as provide details about upcoming experiments and equipment. In addition, the Topical Collection will also include articles about the apparent connection between short-range correlations and the EMC effect as well as articles on upcoming experiments will test if short-range correlations and the EMC effect stem mainly from the same underlying physics.

While the core of the contributions to this topical collection is by invitation, well-motivated relevant submissions will be also considered.
Authors are invited to submit their paper electronically through the website https://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/epja. Submissions should be clearly identified as intended for the Topical Collection "Short-Range Correlations and the EMC Effect". Three types of manuscripts are admissible to this Topical Collection: reviews, research articles, and short communications. Papers will be published continuously and will appear (as soon as accepted) on the journal website. The electronic version of the Topical Collection will contain all accepted papers in the order of publication. All submitted papers will be refereed according to the usual high standards of the journal.
