Abstract
Within the framework of a consistent quantum mechanical approach, a universal expression has been derived for the probability of spontaneous multiphoton scattering of laser pulses of arbitrary duration and amplitude as a result of electric current excitation in a target. The resulting expression is used to describe multiphoton scattering on a metallic nanosphere. The probabilities of this process for a different number of scattered photons are calculated and analyzed, depending on the duration and carrier frequency of the laser pulse. The range of parameter values in which multiphoton processes are essential has been determined.
